Interview with Intel’s CISO on BYOD
BYOD: Get Ahead of the Risk
Find out how Intel came to embrace the issue of bring your own device, or BYOD. This interview features Intel Chief Information Security Officer Malcolm Harkins telling the story and providing policy tips for organizations that may be struggling with BYOD. In 2009, Intel recognized the appeal of BYOD and quickly realized that employees were going to bring their own devices, even if there was no policy. "They would connect it up in different ways," says Harkins. "It would just be done in an unmanaged fashion." So the company embraced BYOD and made it part of a mobile policy that is centered on accountability. Since implementing the policy, Intel has seen the number of employee mobile devices for work use double, but the cost has been incrementally small.
