Smart Server Management
Intel® Node Manager, an Intel server firmware feature, is a smart way to optimize and manage power, cooling, and compute resources in the data center. This server management technology extends component instrumentation to the platform level and can be used to make the most of every watt consumed in the data center.
The latest generation of Intel® Node Manager provides key information and controls that enable the data center to run in a more efficient manner. First, Intel® Node Manager reports vital platform information, such as power, temperature, and resource utilization using standards-based, out-of-band communications. Second, it provides fine-grained controls to limit platform power in compliance with IT policy. Intel Node Manager is available on the Intel® Xeon® processor family.
Intelligent energy management at the platform level helps IT administrators squeeze extra value and performance out of existing rack space while reducing the total cost of ownership. Administrators can improve business continuity with automated power limiting policies that activate during power or thermal events. They can also balance resources by dynamically moving workloads from one part of the data center to another, depending on where the need for power or cooling is greatest. The latest generation of Intel® Node Manager reports additional thermal, airflow, and resource utilization information from each node, which is critical information to a complete data center infrastructure management (DCIM) system.
