Does My Intel® Processor Support Microsoft Windows® 10?

Follow the steps below to determine if your processor supports Windows® 10.

  1. Identify the processor in your system:
    1. Press the Windows Press the Windows key.
    2. Press the S key.
    3. Click System Information or System.
    4. Under Processor, note the processor name and number listed for the next step.
  2. Go to the product specification site and type the processor number in the search box.

    For example: The processor is i7-6700K.

  3. Select the matching result to open the product specification page.
  4. On the product specification page under Essentials, the second line lists the codename.

  5. Note the codename, locate it in the table below, and determine if your processor supports Windows 10.

    In the example given, the i7-6700K has the codename Skylake. In the table below, we can see that the processor supports Windows 10, 64 bit.

Note If you do not see the codename in the table below, then the processor does not support the Windows® 10 driver.

Upgrade only: If you bought a system that came with Windows* 7, Windows* 8, or Windows* 8.1, refer to your original equipment manufacturer (OEM) about upgrading to Windows 10.

Intel Atom® Processors (codename Bay Trail) are supported for Windows 10, 32-bit platform with the existing drivers that were delivered for Windows 8.1*. We plan to certify Windows 8.1* drivers for the Windows 10, 64-bit platform only.

Note: Systems running Windows 7, Windows 8, or Windows 8.1 can use the Get Windows® 10 (GWX) application from Microsoft to confirm your system is compatible. Access the Microsoft Windows® 10 Q&A for more information.
