Due to a conflict between Intel® VT for Directed I/O and the operating system, Intel® VT for Directed I/O needs to be disabled in the BIOS during the VMware* 4.0 update 1 installation. After the installation, Intel® VT for Directed I/O can be re-enabled.

  1. Update the Intel® Server Board S3420GPLC BIOS to the latest version available (at least version 40)
  2. Disable Intel® VT for Directed I/O in the BIOS:
Advanced > Processor Configuration > Intel® VT for Directed I/O
  3. Install VMware* 4.0 Update 1
  4. If using Intel® VT for Directed I/O, re-enable in the BIOS.
